VIEWPOINTS OF EL HIERRO
As you may already know, in 2015 the whole area of El Hierro was declared a UNESCO Global Park. Being defined as a Geopark means that it has a significant geological heritage that needs some sort of exploration and protection.
The Geopark of El Hierro is about 1,2 million years old. It emerged from volcanic eruption 5 thousand metres below the sea and now the highest point of El Hierro is 1501 (Peak Malpaso). The island has over 500 open craters and another 300 which have been covered by more recent lava flows.
If you have a possibility to rent a car or you fancy long bike trips, do not miss your chance to experience a view from one of El Hierro's viewpoints.
Pozo de Las Calcosas
There you can enjoy a view to the small village El Mocanal that is significant because of the houses that from 17th century until nowadays have thatch roofs and made of volcanic rocks. Near the town you can see also a natural swimming pool that is formed by lava flows.

Puntas de Gutiérrez
A view to the coast with basalt columns that are made from lava that while cooling forms into the shape of hexagonal prisms.
Lomo Negro
Bascos viewpoint
There you will have a possibility to see the whole of the El Golfo valley and if a day is clear, even the island of La Palma the Atlantic Ocean. Near the viewpoint, you can find famous La Sabina juniper tree.
Another viewpoint where you can have a look at lava flows from eruption of the most recent Lomo Negro volcano. There seawater came into contact with the magma and, as a result, left rocks with ochre colour.
El Julan viewpoint
From El Julan you can see breathtaking view on a giant volcanic slope that drops down into the waters of Mar de Las Calmas.
Las Playas
This viewpoint offers a magnificent view on the coast, Bonanza rock and, if it is not foggy, on La Gomera and Tenerife. Sometimes, you can find that this point is called 'amphitheatre' because of the possibility to have a wide-angle look from it.
Isora
This look out point is not far from Las Playas, therefore the view from it is quite similar, but it has an advantage of being closer to Bonanza Rock which is a giant rock that emerged form the sea because of the Tiñor volcano eruption.
Jinama
Jinama is a point where the Royal Path from El Golfo to Valverde used to start. This road was used for seasonal movement of livestock between places.
La Llanía
Lesser-known point with a perfect view on El Golfo valley.
Malpaso
The highest point of the island, Malpaso peak is translated from Spanish as bad access as it was hard to reach in the past. If no clouds, you can enjoy a view to the ocean and see La Palma. In a cloudy day, you will probably have possibility to enjoy the sun there, as a cloud line usually stays lower than the Peak.
